1. How was Devi born?

The birth of the goddess is first believed to be Durga, who was born to slay the demon Mahishasura and that is why she is also called Mahishasura Mardini. According to mythology, Mahishasura had captured heaven by driving away the gods, when all the gods went to Trimurti together. Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva created a figure with the energy of their body and all the gods put their powers in that shape. That is why Durga is also called Shakti.Durga's image was very gentle and attractive and she had many hands.


Because all the gods together gave them strength, therefore they are considered the most powerful God. He got the trident of Shiva, the chakra of Vishnu, the lotus of Brahma, the nose from Vayu Deva, the clothes, the bow and the lion from Himavant (the god of mountains) and with such powers, he became Durga and prepared for war. Occurred.

2. After all, why worship is done for 9 days only?


When Durga or Devi attacked Mahishasura and started killing the demons one by one, it took him 9 days to kill Mahishasura, who took the form of buffalo. Hence 9 days are celebrated on Navratri. There are other stories related to it like Navaratri is seen associated with the 9 forms of Durga and says that every day the Goddess took a different form in the war and hence 9 different Goddesses are worshiped on 9 days. Every day is also seen by adding different colors.


3. Why is there eight sides?

Goddess Durga is said to have eight arms. In some scriptures it is also said to have 10 arms. There are 8 important directions in Vastu Shastra, but in many places 10 angles or directions are talked about. Among these are Prachi (East), Pratichi (West), Udichi (North), Avachi (South), Ishan (North East), Agniya (South East), Nairtya (South West), Vayu (North West), Vertical (Sky) O), the underdeveloped (towards Hades)In many places, 8 directions are considered because the sky and hell are not given the status of direction. According to Hindu scriptures, it is believed that Goddess Durga protects her devotees from every direction and that is why she has 8 arms which work in all eight directions.


4. Why the lion rides?

The goddess is said to be riding on a lion. Durga's vehicle is a lion and is seen to be associated with incredible power. It is believed that riding on a lion, Durga Maa puts an end to misery and evil.


5. Why is Durga called Trimbake?

Durga is called Trimbake i.e. three eyes. Shiva is also called Trinetra who had three eyes. Durga is considered half form of Shiva, which is also called Shakti. The three eyes of Durga are considered as symbols of Agni, Surya and Chandra.
