Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Ganeshotsav, Vinayaka Chavithi or Vinayaka Chaturthi is one of the major Hindu festivals celebrated in India. The ten-day festival marks the birthday of King Ganesha. Lord Ganesha, also known as the God of New Startnings, the Remover of Block, is a God of wisdom and prudence, and the son of King Shiva and Godrati Godvati.

1. Why do we call Ganpati Bappa Morya?

It is because Morya Gosavi, who lived in the 14th century in Chinchwad, Maharashtra was one of King Ganesha's most devout devotees. It shows the spiritual bond between God and devoted ones.

2. How did King Ganesha get the elephant's head?

After Lord Shiva severed the head of Ganesha who had been guarding it while Godlov Parvati bathed and refused to allow Shiva to enter the house, Parvati wants Ganesha back to life. The head of the first creature (elephant) Brahma encountered was returned and placed on Ganesha's body.

3. What do 'Ganesha' and 'Ganpati' mean?

Ganesha and Ganpati are both Sanskrit words containing two words. Ghana means a party while burning and a party means a king, a ruler and a king.

4. What is the color of lord ganesha's body? 

According to Shiva Maha Purana, King Ganesha's body is green and red!

5. Different names of lord Ganesha?

 In the Tamil language, Ganpati is known as Pillai or Pillaiyar. In Burmese, like Maha Peinne. In Thai, like Pra Phikanet. And in Sri Lanka as Ghana Deviyo.

6. The Mahabharata is written by Lord Ganesha, as narrated by Sage Ved Vyasa.


7. King Ganesha had two wives, Riddh and Siddh and two sons, Shub and Lab, according to Shiva Maha Purana.


8. On one occasion, Parshuram came to visit King Shiva but Ganesha prevented him from entering as Shiva was meditating. In a rage, Parshuram beat Ganesha with his Pharasaa (ax) given to him by Shiva. Ganesha shot him with one of his rifles in connection with his father's weapon. Therefore, Lord Ganesha is known as Ekdanta.


9. There are 108 King Ganesha's names such as, Vignaharta, Vakratunda, Pitambara, Lambodara, Mangal Murti and many more. He knelt down to attract eight creatures - Vakratunda, Ekdanta, Mahodara, Gajavaktra, Lambodara, Vikata, Vighnaraja and Dhumravarna according to Mudgala, Purana.


10. While Mooshak, the mouse is Ganesha's vahan out of 5 of the 8, King Ganesha, in the other 3, appears with a lion like Vakratunda, with a peacock like Vikata, and Shesha, a divine snake like Vighnaraja.
